Welcome to Take Root Home Visitation

Helping Our Youngest Military Family Members and Their Parents Thrive

We are excited that you have chosen to add this curriculum to your toolbox for working with families! This training is broken into sessions you can complete at your own pace. It will introduce you to the curriculum and guide you in practicing strategies that will help you more effectively engage parents in skill development. Throughout the training, you will be asked to read parts of the Take Root Home Visitation curriculum and to complete assignments. When you have completed the modules, you will be well prepared to use the curriculum to the benefit of the families you serve. Plus, a certificate of completion will be awarded in recognition of your commitment to professional development!

Take Root Home Visitation is one of a suite of programs available to military professionals and families. This series of programs was developed by researchers at the Clearinghouse for Military Family Readiness at Penn State as requested by the Department of Defense, Office of Military Community & Family Policy. Through the Thrive Initiative, the suite of developmentally-appropriate, evidence-informed, and health-promoting parenting curricula and parenting education programs empower parents and caregivers as they nurture their children from birth until the age of 18 years. The Initiative includes face-to-face and online parenting programs and a range of online resources and interactive learning modules to meet families where they are in their parenting knowledge and practices. There are four universal Thrive Initiative programs available in online formats; immediate access to programming is granted to parents and caregivers. The universal face-to-face and targeted programs, like Take Root Home Visitation, are delivered by professionals like you in an in-person format. All the Thrive programs are owned by the Federal Government, and the online universal programs are available at no cost to military and civilian families. You can learn more about the other programs at thrive.psu.edu
